French Wine Society – New Alsace Master-level Program

FWS logoThe French Wine Society, based in France and Washington DC, is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for a series of wine study programs, both at scholar and masters level, as well as study trips to selected French wine regions. Their newest is the Alsace Master-level program, created jointly by the French Wine Society and Alsace resident and expert, Thierry Meyer, who will be the lead instructor.

cropped-img_5901.jpgThe program, which is offered entirely online, allows you to explore Alsace from the comfort of your own office or home. In addition to preparatory reading assignments, online study modules and review quiz, there are 8 live webinars by lead instructor, Thierry Meyer. There are 6 further webinars by Olivier Humbrecht MW (on traditional, organic and biodynamic winemaking in Alsace), Etienne Hugel (on late harvest and Selection de Grains Nobles wines), Andrew Jefford (with an outside perspective on the wines of Alsace), David Schildknecht (on Riesling from Alsace), Thierry Fritsch (on the structure and economics of the Alsace wine industry) and me on Alsace wines with food.

The course includes your copy of the Alsace Master-Level Study Manual, reading and tasting assignments to accompany each lecture, online review quizzes, access to instructors via the Q&A forum, an optional study immersion trip to Alsace in June of 2013 (additional fees apply) and an online, proctored exam sit. You’ll find the detailed curriculum outlined here.

The whole thing goes live on March 4th so hurry, hurry and sign up now! The cost is around US$310, with a nice reduction to my friends and contacts (insert promotion code STYLE when you register).

Looking forward to exploring the wonders of the world of Alsace wines with you!
